The weekend was..

sandy coloured grass hiding giraffes and lions;
vivid red earth throwing up clouds of dust as we drove;
bright green trees signalling a river or pond where animals could be found drinking;
a warthog snuffling around the tent at night, his hooves clicking on the wooden platform;
a bright blue pool under a bright blue sky over looking the African savannah;
dinner under the stars on the verandah of our cottage on a working organic farm;
roadtrip music and banter with my sister and her boyfriend;
elephants ponderously crossing to the waterhole near the tent, looking for water in the parched land;
a solitary hippo sitting in his own pool, outcast from his family;
tetse flies swarming and biting, bites that are only just starting to go down;
happiness under the African sky and three whole days away from Dar.
