Brilliant Weekend

This weekend just gone was fun filled and action packed. Well, if lying on the beach and sleeping a lot counts as action packed!

After the monster sleep of Friday night we did become party animals and, after a breakfast in bed kind of morning, made our way to the remote island where the birthday celebrations were to take place. That afternoon and evening involved beer and wine, risque and silly talk, playing with the three kids who came along to celebrate too and donning wigs and hats to sign songs to serenade the birthday girl into her thirties.

Sunday morning felt like it came around all too soon, especially when the sun woke me by shining straight in my eyes through a gap in the curtains at about half six. However, if you have to woken first thing in the morning a beach side hut is one of the nicer places to have it happen. I manfully struggled back to sleep and woke again at half nine minus any sign of a hangover. What a bonus. One lazy morning of eating, snorkling and hiding in the shade later we took the boat back to the mainland to get ready for another night out.

Youssou N Dour and Angelique Kidjo were playing in Dar last night and while I had never heard of her I was excited to see the voice behind 7 Seconds live and in person. And it was worth staying up late on a school night. He has quite the presence live and knows how to draw in the crowd. And as for Kidjo, she is a little tiny slip of a woman from Benin who has a voice that could knock you over. If you ever have a chance to see either of them live please, please take it!

I may have gone back to bed for an hour this morning instead of going to work early as I usually do but this weekend was well worth it.
