So this was Christmas..

I have had a blissful, switched off Christmas. I barely switched on my computer except to post a Christmas greeting on the day itself and I feel better for it. There was plenty of champagne, cocktails, wine and beer consumed over the 4 day weekend. I slept in a little, though hardly at all now that I think on it. I started reading a much anticipated book that James brought back from his trip home. I ate fresh fruit and scrambled eggs for Christmas breakfast, opened presents, gave presents and watched The Lion King on dvd before going to a delicious and fun dinner at James’s bosses house. It was far less terrifying than anticipated and I managed to have a good time and not disgrace myself. There was no cake unfortunately however and I quite miss my mother's Christmas cake right now.

We headed off early the next morning to secure a bus ticket for the guest for her Monday adventures and to drive to a nearby safari park. “Nearby” means 5 hours of driving which we took in our stride. We also took the massive rainstorm that rolled in just as we arrived in our stride too and watched the rain sweep across the savannah from the comfort of our tented lodge. After it passed we watched zebra, giraffe and impala play in front of the lodge. That night we were woken by a massive thunderstorm right overhead and by lightening that lit the whole savannah. Thankfully it had passed by morning and we headed out bright (or overcast) and early to see more animals. We racked up sightings of elephants, hippos, two lions, lizards, baboons, water-buffalo, wildebeest and lots more zebra, giraffe and impala; a good game-drive all in all.

Then we headed home on our 5 hour trip. My lack of sleeping-in was catching up with me so we made a quick tofu and vegetable stir-fry for dinner and hit the hay. I think I was asleep shortly after nine. All to the good really as wake-up time was 5.20 yesterday morning in order to drive our visitor to the bus station from whence she set off on the next part of her African adventure. We’ll see her on Friday somewhere in the mountains.
