Change - not my favourite friend

I can never quite decide whether I'm one of those people who embraces change or hates change. I suspect that like most people I'm somewhere in between and my response depends on what kind of change I am facing.

Arranging to find a job and move to Tanzania - not a problem. Very exciting in fact because I knew on the other end I had a lovely man waiting who was prepared to help me fit in here in any way he could.

Moving around the corner to another house this weekend - not so good. I like our current house. It has a big garden and is on a quiet street. The only reason we are going is because the bar next door can be very noisy at times.

It's silly that it's the small things that freak me out at times. I moved half way across the world without batting an eyelid. I've done that a couple of times in fact. But moving around the corner when I'm comfortable here - no thank you!

And I know, despite my tummy churning a little, that once we put our things away there, tidy it up and make it our own I'll be happy with it. At the moment because it doesn't feel like ours I am focusing on the negative, such as the generator being very close and noisy, the street being much more noisy, the garden being small which won't be nice for the dogs.

At the same time I can hear a little voice in the back of my head telling me to cop myself on. I'm spoiled that I even have the choice of where I can live (perk of the boyfriend's job, nothing to do with me), I'm spoiled to be living here at all and it's a great house. It has a roof terrace! And so I'm swallowing my complaints. James won't hear a word from my lips - he's terribly excited about the move, not having my problem with change - as we've already talked it all through and he takes me too seriously sometimes. Something this small - I can take on my own! The dogs will probably have a harder time than me.

  1. I am the same way! I moved 1,000 miles away from EVERYONE I knew without even a 2nd thought. But I flipped out about moving to a different town just 35 minutes away, until I got settled in the new town and now I love it. :-)
