It’s a long weekend here in Tanzania; the end of Ramadan and the celebration of Eid. This means a very long weekend which includes Monday and Tuesday off. This makes up a little bit for the disappointment of my leave situation taking away all the other long weekends I had planned. We have a splendid weekend planned with a trip down the coast to visit an ancient Arab ruin; very apt for a Muslim celebratory holiday.
The things I’m looking forward to include a road trip with one of the best road tripping buddies ever. He doesn’t even mind if I neglect my passenger duty to talk and to mind the music and radio and fall asleep instead. Also, we’ll be exploring an area I’ve never been to before. We’ll have to take a boat over to an island with lovely sandy beaches and the ancient ruins of an Arabic trading centre (probably slaves as well as spices sadly), sleep in a hut near the beach and hear the waves washing onto the shore. I don’t know for sure but I suspect it will also involve fresh seafood, tasty juicy local fruit and probably a few too many of the best ice-cream cones ever, if indeed there is such thing as too much ice-cream.
I plan on bringing my camera and experimenting with it at leisure. If the results prove worthy I’ll do some posting. I hope everyone else has lovely weekends planned too, doing whatever makes you happy.
